New homes provided in time for Christmas

We are thrilled to announce that this week we’ll be opening a new project that will house up to thirteen people in need of a home, with the first tenants due to move in just in time for Christmas.

The project, located in Leicester’s Castle ward, has been made possible thanks to a local property owner who has generously covered the cost of renovating the 4 terraced houses to create modern and well equipped living spaces. The accommodation will offer tenants their own furnished room, ensuite bathroom and tea station as well as access to communal kitchens and courtyards. Thanks to public donations, Action Homeless will also be providing the new tenants with the basics that they need such as bedding and kitchenware.

Tenants have already been identified, with the majority moving from crisis hostel accommodation. With the charity acting as landlord, the new tenants have the guarantee that their rent will remain affordable for however long they choose to stay.

Mark Grant, Action Homeless chief executive, said ‘we are really pleased to be able to offer this additional accommodation to people who are affected by homelessness in Leicester. The city as a whole is suffering from a lack of good quality affordable housing and this has a huge impact on people, leaving many vulnerable. I am particularly delighted that people without a home will have somewhere safe and comfortable to call their own in time for Christmas.’

Action Homeless will officially launch the new accommodation at a project open morning on Thursday 13th December 2018.
