‘Celebrating Great’ at our Winter Fair

Action Homeless yesterday brought together people who are currently experiencing homelessness, or those who have been previously affected, charity staff, volunteers and trustees to celebrate achievements and progress over the last year. Over 50 people with lived experience of homelessness were in attendance at the Winter Fair which comprised of a range of interactive stalls, coaching challenges and games.

Guests were able to learn about new projects including music workshops facilitated by De Montfort University’s Music Department and a Lived Experience Voice initiative which provides confidence building and training to support people to use their own experiences, expertise and knowledge to influence and help others.

James, Action Homeless’ Community Engagement Assistant, who organised the event said ‘It was brilliant to get everyone together and hear about all the great things that people have achieved this year as well as all the new opportunities for people to get involved in going forward. Thanks to everyone that came along!’

The event also saw a raffle being drawn, with lucky winners getting their hands on prizes donated by Leicester City Football Club, Coop Central England and the Loughborough University School of Business and Economics. Action Homeless’ Coaching Programme was celebrated with those involved being awarded certificates and speaking about their experiences.

Our youngest residents enjoyed a Christmas craft corner and got stuck in making masks and wreaths to decorate their rooms.

The afternoon was wrapped up with some delicious food served up by Gray’s Kitchen.
