Stability and the support to re-connect with family
Rosie became homeless after experiencing domestic abuse from her partner and her family. She lost her home and her job, as well as regular contact with her children as she was not in stable accommodation. After her relationship broke down, Rosie moved in with her mother but was unfortunately not able to stay very long as there was very limited space. When Rosie moved out of her mother’s house, she was not able to find more permanent accommodation for several years and as a result was constantly moving from one friend’s house to another. She was struggling financially, and her mental health was hugely impacted.
Rosie was eventually able to find more permanent housing for a few years with an affordable housing provider, however when the organisation providing the housing went into liquidation she had no choice but to move on. This was very disruptive for her. At this point she was referred to Action Homeless for support, and received help from our A+ team.
Rosie’s support worker recognised her individual needs, and provided dedicated and personalised support. The A+ team were able to provide Rosie with accommodation in a female only shared house to make sure that she felt safe and secure. Having a stable and secure home allowed Rosie to concentrate on other aspects of her life that were somewhat neglected. Rosie still had an ongoing court case for contact with her children, which she was receiving support from a solicitors firm.
She also started receiving mental health support from an external organisation. She was also able to get a pass to the local leisure centre, in order to go swimming and keep active.
Living in shared accommodation meant she could not spend time with her children in her own home, which made contact very difficult. However, Rosie was soon offered a room in an Action Homeless property with a garden, which would allow contact with her children. Now that the court case is over, she is in the process of waiting to have the property approved for visits with her children. Rosie is continuing to look for longer term accommodation of her own, where she would be able to have her children visit overnight.
Rosie is grateful for the secure accommodation that Action Homeless has provided, and is reassured that she can ask her support worker for help with anything she may need in the future.
