Engage Hub ready to reopen after full design makeover
A team of volunteers from Puretabletop, led by designer Kiera Spriggs, were hard at work last week to complete the final stages of the Engage Hub refurbishment. They were working alongside Action Trust to pull together the design brief from Action Homeless to create a warm and welcoming space which will soon be hosting a range of activities such as coffee mornings, book clubs and cooking lessons. The Hub will provide more opportunities for people to receive support, as well as build relationships and pick up skills.
Hannah, one of the volunteers, described what they had been up to:
“We’ve been building furniture, putting up pictures. Kiera has been organising it all. For the last few weeks we have been sourcing furniture and other items. We’ve gone for an eclectic, vintage style look”.
The space was a hive of activity, with a great team effort from the volunteers taking on everything from putting up reclaimed shelves to sanding and stripping the bespoke pieces of furniture that Kiera had found.
The transformation has been made possible with cash from the Severn Trent Community Fund, as well as the hard work of the team of volunteers. Hannah explained that “Puretabletop makes a point of giving back to the community. The company offers every employee two days a year to volunteer for a charity”. The fantastic new Hub will soon be ready to be used, and it promises to be both a unique space and fitting for its location.
Amelia, one of the volunteers, described the striking gallery wall:
“We chose the fox and the tiger as they were fitting for the city, and we put together the inspirational quotes. Everything was done in the colour scheme of the design for the space”.
